I'm buildin my first computer ever now. I basically want a system that'll let me play the current games that are big, HL2, WOW, Doom3, and will last me for atleast 2 years without any significant upgrades. Heres what I managed to scrape together as a good system. Any comments would be VERY HELPFUL. Thanks

CPU AMD Athalon 64 3000 Venice
MoBo MSI K8N Neo4
Vid Card Radeon X800XL
Ram pqi TURBO 1GB (2 x 512MB
HD Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 ST3160021A 160GB
DVD R
Monitor http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16824005035
Case Cooler Master Centurian 5

All these total to about 1300 dollars without considering the rebate on the monitor (-$150), so about 1150, and then shippin and stuff, so about 1200 total. If you could tell me whether i picked a good manufacturer, messed up with compatablity or something like that, or if im buyin something thats crappy or too much (basically is the video card too much for everything else).

Thanks alot before I even post this.

Everything looks great. I don't know much about that monitor though, so I can't really comment on it.

yeah i agree with the case. i'm not a fan of cooler master stuff.
i'm also not an MSI fan by any means.

everything else looks alright.

i have two of those seagate drives in RAID 0. I'm pretty happy, theyre quiet.

looks good to me. as for the case, ive had the same case, and it rocks. great cooling, good looks, and if you should decide to mod in the future, its not the best case ever, but itll hold its own

anyone think there might be a prob with not having a 24-pin PSU (or a stronger PSU in general)? Its a 380W.

i also read that this motherboard may only have 20pin connector...so...should he just get a stronger PSU and use two Molex connectors or will he be fine with what he has?

Everything looks excellent, but yeah, that case's PSU would be the only concern i have, though KoolDrew believes they are good.

As you can see in the last pic, I concealed the optical drive bay using the meshed bezel that the case came with. Though this bezel was screwed into the case initially, that means there were metal straps that were attached to it. Well, its nothing a dremel cant cure. Since the bezel is meshed, using double sided tape directly is a no-no since it totally shows from the outside. What I had to do was use a strong glue stick and glue black card board to the inside part of the bezel. then i used double sided tape to tape the bezel to the drive bay. Vua-lah. It's a beaut. As for noise, as you can probably see from my sig, I've used all Zalman products to keep them quiet. And guess what! It's insanely quiet when tuned to the lowest speed settings. My CPU fan is the loudest piece in my case. Everything else and almost inaudible, aside from the HDD seeking.

BTW, if you dont like the case, take a look at it in person. It's sooo much godlier when you can see it straight from your eyes and not from a pic. I was the same until I went to Fry's and saw it myself. I agree its not the best case in the world, but for that price range, I couldnt find anything else that tickled my fancy. The only other cases I really like are the Cooler Master Wave Master and the Lian-Li PC-V1000. Other then that, I'm all about Shuttle XPC's.

its a decent system
MSI used to be having some problems with its older generation boards,
but these days they just keep getting better and better.
