Well before i went with the ECS K75SA as the motheboard of choice but some people talked me out of it.

So here is my setup now:

MSI K7T TURBO2 (6330-250) KT133A 266MHz FSB SOCKET A ATX MOTHERBOARD - RETAIL = 66.00
AMD Athlon 1600+/266 FSB XP PROCESSOR CPU - OEM = 54.99
MAXTOP CSX-8870K 350W Beige/Silver = 35.00
KINGSTON VALUERAM 128MB PC133 SDRAM - OEM = 24.00

204 dollars with shipping included.

I know the case isnt too good but i cant go any higher of my budget which is 200 dollars. Everything is from newegg.com
Also should i buy another stick of 128SDRAM since i have one laying around, my dads use of the computer is to read news and listen to acouple mp3s, but the ram is from a compaq.

what operating system, and when i use to build computers for people, "I just need the computer for e-mail and word processing". Yeah right, then they tried to run AOL, MS word and some mp3s player at the same time, and they would ask why their computer is so slow. I would go with at least 256

i will be running windowsXP Pro. And seriously this will be only for news and mp3s, for the past year where my dad has bin using my computer he never did anything besides reading news.

If you are using Windows XP Pro, 256MB of RAM is almost a must. 128MB is the bare minimum you should use with it but you are probably going to get a lot of slow down.

A bunch of my buddies got on the Dell 1.8A and 2.0A Pent IV system deals. At 128mb, XP home was really slow, I would definetly bump up to 256mb.

I have 1600+, and 256MB or DDR, and with WIN XP pro, your going to want more ram. Especially if your multitasking at all. My computer uses about 33% of the memory on startup alone. Shoot for another 256MB stick. Won't be much more than the 128 with SD prices being as they are. Or just go all out and get a 512MB stick and not worry about it. I still can't believe how much ram win XP hogs, especially running MOHAA, or Renegade

I have to agree with the 256 of RAM. Kinda funny I am in the exact same position for my parents. $200 machine I am getting for them for christmas. You don't need anymore than 256 for web surfing.
