Building computer for uncle - AMD or Intel?

I'm putting together a new computer for my uncle because his pentium 2 is in the sh|t's. I am debating on wheter to go with AMD or Intel. i have amd now, always had intel before, but i like AMD

EDIT: i decided to go AMD

He has PC133 ram so i am going for the 200fsb chip and board. what board/chipset would you recommend for that? Also his budget is the chip and board for like ~200. let me know thanks

Look forward to the phone call Saturday night because his system hung..

I say Intel, a fast (800+) Celeron on a solid i815e platform.

Um... PC133 SDRAM doesn't limit you to 200MHz FSB. Look for a KT133A motherboard. A particular favorite these days is the Iwill KK266 Plus. This board costs about $100, that leaves you about $100 for somthing like an OEM Athlon 1.33.

Should be a nice machine.

Let's see...

Duron 800MHz - $44
ECS K7S5A - $62

Total: $106

Compared To:

Asus TUSL2-C - $107
Celeron 850MHz - $44

Total: $151

NOTE: All prices without shipping, from NewEgg.

You save roughly $45 and the Duron 800 blows the pants off that Celery. Period. Nothing touches the ECS K7S5A (actually sold for as little as $55 new but often the shipping is much higher than NewEgg) for price/performance. It utilizes the awesome SiS 735 chipset. No VIA headaches to deal with. You can pop in your antiquated PC133 SDRAM now, and perhaps upgrade to PC2100 DDR in the future. You also have a clear upgrade path for future CPUs. There's just no better bargain out there right now.

Doesn't matter whether you have PC133 or not. You can operate the CPU and RAM frequencies asynchronously. Anotherwards, you can run a 100 FSB chip (200MHz DDR) while running your memory at 133MHz.

No AMD chipset provides support for PC133. VIA has KT133/A, but I don't recommend them. The only viable solution right now is SiS 735.

ok i think i decided. jsut gonan go DDR with the Gigabyte GA7DX. it's the board i use now and i love it. SO i may as well since it will cost him relatively the same anyway, or less.
