Yes, but what processor are you using? PC1600 only does a 100MHz FSB.

Huh, thought you'd experiment w/ something you wouldn't have to use yourself?

Anyway, don't give your sister a pirated OS ;)

Well, why the hell did you sign up to get her a Christmas PC then? :D

The PC1600 will work, but only if you get a 100MHz FSB processor. And unless your sister's a hardcore gamer, she'll be delighted with a 1GHz Duron IMO. :)

1) She can't get support for it from Microsoft.

2) It might stop working if she tries to install the next service pack or upgrade hardware.

3) It's just cheap and a crappy gift. How would you like it if someone gave you a burned CD-R of Warcraft 3 or something for christmas?

Yes, that will work both with the motherboard and the DDR RAM. Good call. :)

re the pirated OS comments by notfred

1) Bingo. You know who she's going to call instead? Your sorry ass.
2) Something tells me his sister's not going to be upgrading hardware. SPs and updates though could break it. (When's SP2 due?)
3) Hold up there. A CD-R as a gift is one thing - but he's getting her a friggin' computer. Cut the man some slack.

/building four systems this holiday season ... oh, f@cking JOY! Get me a rum and eggnog, because I'm going to be posting in GH on the night of the 24th trying to figure out compatibility issues.

If you're not good at building, get something like this I just purchased:

Computer

I just bought it a two weeks ago for a girl that's starting college. The guy delivered it fast and everything is there complete. I don't think that can be beat for 276 bucks shipped. The motherboard supports 2100+ so you can always upgrade.

Of course I had a licensed 2000 pro lying around collecting dust as well as office.

I built my first one just a year ago, and I have built several since then, including one for my kids for Christmas this year. I think its a great idea, just don't do what I did on the first one and use a magnetic screwdriver to put in the mobo. Bad idea. :p Just remember, take it slow, and you will do just fine.

Good luck! :D
