My uncle was asking about getting a computer for my 8 year old cousin. I told him I could put one together for him.

I am thinking about putting in a 1 gig Duron, that would use a slot A mobo right (sorry brain fart) are there any pieces of hardware out there that have conflicts with that type of motherboard I would want to avoid?

ECS K7S5A + 1ghz Duron
256mhz PC133 SDRAM
17in Samsung SyncMaster 735DF
Evercase E4252 w/ 2 front USB ports - Comes in Black or White
Sony, Lite-on, Mitsumi or Creative 52x CD-ROM drive... anything but Delta and Hi-Val
16x DVD-ROM drives, same brands i recommend and unrecommend for the CD-ROM drive
Cheap 16MB or 32MB video card. (preferably ATI RAGE128 or TNT2)
Microsoft Optical Wheel Mouse + Keyboard of your choice
Creative Slim500 2.1 Speakers
Onboard Sound or Hercules Fortissimo II or Creative SBLive 5.1
Maxtor D740X 40Gig ( this may be to much but the difference in price of a 20gig is very little so why not get double the space )
Onboard LAN

If you cousin doesn't have broadband access in or he does not choose to get it any old 56k modem will do fine. You may want to omit the DVD drive and go with cheaper speakers if money is your concern. Otherwise you may also want to get he or she a microphone (labtec), Webcam or Kidde Digital Cam (Intel) and a Deskjet 940c printer.

Hope this helps. If you need futher help or have any questions feel free to PM me.

Well now this takes the fun out of it ;)

He wants a DVD and burner for sure

I plan on getting all of it just around town. At Best Buy and such. Saves the hassle and he doesn't need the top of the line anway.

I was thinking 20-30 gig. Maybe a Radeon 7000. An on sale yet good burner and dvd drive.

Thanks for the info and I'll take it all into consideration
