I am getting read to build an HTPC, but its main use will be as a multi tuner sageTV PVR box. It will be in my entertainment center, so watching shows on it is no problem. But I have another TV in the bedroom, I plan to get a hauppauge media MVP and hopefully soon sage will have it client for it. I had planned to burn shows I wanted to keep to DVD(still gotta picka DVD burner), but thenit dawned on me, I have no way of playing these back. I can obviously play them back on the DVD burner computer, and I am thinking they should play on a standard computer DVD player, is that correct? But the only other things I have are a PS2, which I don't think can handle burned DVD's. I also have a cheap Apex DVD player, which may or may not work with them, but it requires much effort to get it to work and almost never gets used.

So should I just buy a modern DVD player that can handle the new DVD formats, or should I get an Xbox and mod it. I know the Xbox would cost a bit more, but it would also offer more functionality.

Also can you clear one thing up for me, would I be able to install the sageTV client on the Xbox, it is a standard peice of windows software, but I just don't have much idea of what exactly the Xbox is capable of. I know it can be hacked to run linux, but what about windows, or at least windows programs?

My cousin was just mentioning to me yesterday that target has a Phillips dvd player for 70 bucks that plays Divx and xvid if yuo are interested. so that means that you can play burnt movies that you have to on it w/o using a dvd burner.
