So I'm building my first WHS and I need a little bit of advice. My options are

Intel ATOM with ION or a Core i3

The Core i3 is obviously better, but its also more expensive.

My question is I'd like to transcode to my iPhone through "PlayOn", but an Atom is obviously too underpowered. Is there a way to have my WHS use the cpu that's in my macbookpro 13 to handle the transcoding?

Or do you think I should just shoot for the i3? Thanks.

Install PlayOn on the laptop.
Mount the network drive.
Setup PlayOn to use network drive as source.

Awesome, thanks man.

Now I wonder if I should wait for Zacate, hmmm.

If you are only going to make a server to share your files, there is no need to buy a "high end" Atom board. File servers require little to no resources (CPU/RAM).

Something like this
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813121442
is more than serviceable for your needs if you are doing the transcoding on your other computer.

Hell, you could just buy a network or USB external HD and get the same result.

That's the board I'm plannin to buy. I would just get a network drive but I plan to hook up 6+ drives.
