building an athlon system, i need some advice on what i should buy

'm gonna be building a new computer before the end of august and i need some advice on what i should get. i have about $1000 maybe more. for everything from scratch, including a monitor. what does everyone suggest i do? oh yeah i also need to know a good cheap computer case to buy. perferably one with a quiet 300watt power supply.

and what brand dvd drive, what brand ram, etc...everything to get. and where to get it cheapest if possible. thanks

If you are looking at an AMD system, I would suggest you to get the Duron system. With your budget, t-bird might be a little tight, but Duron should be great.

I would say to get the Asus upcoming KT133 mobo. It will be expensive, but you pay for the stability. Get 128MB PC133 RAM. For DVD, I think Acer and Plextor are good choice. get 10x or above.

I don't have much idea about cases, since I am not very picky on them.

For monitor, I think www.onvia.com is a good choice, since they have free shipping.
For parts, I think www.mwave.com is a good place to start.

You may also try pricewatch.com for cheapest price, but don't forget that you will have to add shipping and handling too.

Oh, forgot. the speed of the CPU. I would say get as high as you can, or read some more reviews these days and see which one has the best price and o/c ability ratio.
