Could you post some pics as you progress so we can see how you are doing this project?

Sounds really cool btw.

I've been formulating plans to build an integrated system case into my desk with ducted intake and exhaust through the wall behind the desk to the cellar. All for noise purposes. Well, and a coolness factor, of course. It it weren't for the fact that I'd need to access CDRW and TBU fairly often, I'd just put the existing cases behind the wall to hide the noise.

Anyhow, I'd be very interested to hear how you assemble this puppy.

what's a tbu? and do extended ide/power cables exist? 'cause if they do, wouldn't that be all you need to build the case behind you? it sounds awesome, what you're doing!

I've kept my design ideas somewhat secret but I suppose I should share my ideas.

I'm constructing a computer case enclosure with hinge door to access the front.
Walls made of high quality 1/2" MDF laminated with stained white oak.
Hinged door with double paned tinted glass window. Magnet locked, with closed foam sealed gasket
Exhaust and intake duct lined with sound dampening materials with Greddy inspired straight through design.
Walls of inner case lined with canadian sound dampening material
DVD/CD rack on top of the PC enclosure
Rubber sealed cable ports
Switch controlled neon lights on inside of wooden enclosure

The measurements and blue prints are completely finished for a wooden case designed specifically for an Antec KS-282.
The box should be done in one week, I will post many pics of how I made it, dimensions, and a DIY website.
My friend wants to run some SPL sound level tests to see how effective my exhaust system is in addition to how cool my PC actually runs.

Pics of my system are here The computer right now is extremely quiet with my fan control, and dynamat liner. I'm attempting to further silence it to inaudible levels. :)

Any thoughts or suggestions before we start cutting up the sheet of wood would be appreciated. My best friend is a contractor so we have access to his professional wood shop.

Yap - TBU = Tape Backup Unit

I'm going to have 2 PCs in the new "case", which I will build into the overhead "file storage" bins. The interior of the case will look like this: |_--_| with one motherboard mounted on the interior left and right sides of the vertical walls on sliding trays (for easy access). The removable media (CDRW, DVD and floppy) will be mounted in bays between the two boards (represented by the to "--" dashes).

Approximate dimensions will be 20 inches high by 24 inches wide by 23 inches deep. The depth will leave enough room to mount the HDDs behind the removable media bays. The height will allow me to mount the Power Supplies above the boards, and also to duct intake below the case. Intake will be ducted from behind the wall (the cellar) to the bottom-front of the case, and exhausted back out the wall through the top-rear of the case. I believe two 120mm case fans + the two PS fans will provide enough air flow. I am considering an 80mm exhaust fan behind the HDDs

I recognize that the route PC noise will take into my "living space" is through the CDRW/TBU removable media bays. I also recognize that removable media bays the hardest area to cool, and so I am considering moving the "hot" TBU outside the case an into a seperate spacious enclosure.

I'm quite excited. Pictures will be flowing on a regular basis.
