My friend needs a new computer. He needs this computer everyday for mpeg 2 video encoding/capture with windvd creator. Converting the satellite tv signal to mpeg 2 and then burning the converted file as a dvd movie. I really don't have much experience in regards to mpeg 2 encoding computer rigs but from what i gather, it is CPU intensive and not video card intensive. Since he is on a budget, I think i'm gonna go with the Asus A8N-VM CSM and a 160gb hd, plextor dvd burner, 1 gig of ram. My problem is i'm not sure which CPU to go with. obviously, my MB limits me to AMD but i'm not sure if I should go with AMD or Intel for what he is going to be using his computer for. If Intel is indeed better, what good, stable, reasonably prices motherboard with onboard video is there? If AMD is better, which cpu should i go with? FX or Athlon 64x2? He is currently using an eMachines Celeron 2.6 gig that is only capable of encoding/authoring at 1x speeds. He wants to dramatically icnrease the speed of this process at a reasonable cost. Any ideas? Thanks!! If possible, he's like to not spend mroe than 1000$. Also, is it possible, if he has two dvd burners (1 external and 1 internal) to burn two dvd movies simulatneously from the same source. Basically, make two copies from the same source simultaneously. Right now, he has to burn one copy, and then copy that burned copy. He's wondering if its possible to burn both discs at the same time. Thanks!!
