building a system

this is my first time building a systemn, and i connect the powersupply to all the fans of the case, and tried to turn on the psu. but none of the fans start up.

also, i tried powering up the motherboard (with ram and pci cards) and not boots. it is dead.

when i turn off the psu switch, i hear a small sound as if some cap is discharging.

do you guys think the psu is dead?

The PC won't start with just the PSU switch turned on. Either hook up your case power switch to your mobo, or just short the two power pins on the mobo to turn it on.

i did just that and it worked. installing the OS now.
