holy crap you're gonna spend $800 on a cpu?!? Personally I wouldn't do that, I'd get something cheaper and get a better vid card than the ATI 7500, like the 9700.

I agree...how about a 2.4b or 2.6b and OC it?

I would also check out the Sony DVD-R, it writes in DVD-RW and DVD+RW formats.

Plus if you look at the deal section, the SB Audigy can be had for $60.

ditch the CPU, 800 dollars is laughable.

you know that $800 CPU will sell for something like $200 in a month or two, right? ;):p

Get another video card and a separate capture card. You can then still upgrade the video witout having to get another AIW.
saw you ditched the $800 CPU = wise choice.

Dump some of that cash from the CPU into a ATI 9700, sweet card and if you were expecting to spend it on the CPU...

imo its overpriced and overdone....kind of like a monster truck, sure they are cool to look at and im sure a blast to drive, but would you want to drive one everyday?
go for something more subtle ;)

Do you really need a DVD recorder? Think about it real hard. You could save a good $275 by getting a LiteOn CDRW. You would have more money to upgrade the vid card and the sound card. You would also have left over money to buy some pretty good speakers.

BTW, what do you plan on doing with this box? Games, spreadsheets, video editing?

I'd get two 120gb drives instead of the 200. Windows has a limitation for 128gbs or something so its a hassle.

Do you have a fry's near you? They often have 2.5ghz combos with motherboard for like 300. I personally would drop the dvd-recordable right now. They seem to be dropping in price. Get a lite-on dvd and a lite-on 40+x cd-rw. I'd also change that Audigy to a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz. You can get it from amazon.com for 45 shipped. That, and move your video card up to an ATI 9500 or a Geforce 4 ti4200 or higher. Also, I'd get the Soyo SY-P4VX2L coupled with a 512 stick of Corsair High Performance PC-3200C2 With Heat Spreader.

Do you really need XP Pro? Won't XP Home suffice?

You should do some Hot Deal shopping for the hard drives, and the sound and video cards. I'm pretty sure the Turtle sound card is $50 at Amazon. The video card and the hard drives - you should be able to find a good deal on them other than newegg. I would suggest looking at Pricewatch and PM with Staples and using coupons. They have a nice thread over at Hefty Wallet about dropping shipping parts from Ingram Micro at Staples. You should be able to put together a good deal there.

If you don't have a time limit, put it together over a few months using the Hot Deals forum.

A few thoughts.
