building a skateboard

once the weather gets warm enough, i plan on building a couple of skateboards for myself. i was wondering if anyone here has experience with this or if anyone can share some common knowledge of wood. i plan on building a 40" pintail (this shape) and a 54" cruiser (this shape). i found a tutorial online, where the guy said he uses 5 ply, half inch marine grade ply wood for his boards. im wondering if anyone knows some good wood that can support 150-200 pounds on it with a little flex, but not too much. it cant be too stiff, either. and does anyone know where to get pieces of wood for cheap? i dont want to have to buy a 4x8 sheet. thanks!

I haven't ridden longboards in a while... are you planning on putting in concave or camber? The only thing I can really recommend is for your trucks.. Randall II. But I'm sure you already know that. good luck.

yes, i love my randall IIs, and im probably gonna buy them for both boards. im gonna put a little concave on the big board, and maybe some camber on the pintail. is camber when say the middle is higher than the nose or tail? if so, thats what i want to do on the pintail. the tutorial has a good way of concaving boards, found here on pages 1 and 2.

Don't be suckered by skateboard shops using techno babble about bearings. They don't know $hit about them.

HINT: ABEC rating means F-ALL for how "fast" you'll go.

Buy some wheels and go to a bearing house for the bearings and talk to them if you wanna know the skinny.
