Getting to ready to build a rig with core 2 duo 6600, evga 680i mobo, super talents 2gb ddr2 800, and either the ATI radeon x1950xtx or the nvdia 8800gts. Any advice on which graphics card is better. The forums seem to show the radeon beating the 8800gts, but losing to 8800gtx. Appreciate your thoughts and expertise.

P.S if you like the 8800gts would you go w/ the bfg or evga?

8800GTS - if I were building it. I dunno if I would get a BFG or an eVGA, both are excellent, but I would probably go with the eVGA for the step-up program.

If I were you, I'd go balls out and get an 8800GTX. I've occasionally seen it for around $500 after certain deals; once I think it even sold for $474 someplace. If not... the 8800GTS still gets my vote for the DX10 capability, plus it apparently overclocks to near GTX levels. Bottom line... you're almost gonna spend that much anyway, and considering the rest of your build, the additional amount to get the GTX would only be a minimal expense and you'll be FLYING.

8800GTX was $534 at dell with their 15% off.
You could get more off though if you had a coupon.

Stick with evga/xfx though (dell has xfx)
