building a PC from scraps

I had a new case, a guy give me a mother board, hard some old ram, processor, etc. I took a hd out of a old pc and installed it. I put everything together, i see the led on the mb light up, but nothing on the monitor. is there a way to format the hd (i think it has win95 on it or something) with it set up the way it is? anyway to get it to boot? i know use newbies drive you crazy, but we appreicate all the help.

it should at least boot to bios WITHOUT a hard drive. something is wrong. try booting with the bare minimuns and see what happens.

Try clearing the CMOS by using the "Clear CMOS" jumper.

unhooked everything...black screen. i wonder if the "known good" processor i have really isn't any good. Hmm...any ideas?

Maybe installing a video card would help?

If clearing the CMOS doesn't work, try taking the board out of the case - it may be shorting out.

got a old PA80 video card in it.

Yea, free usually isn't good, but heck nothing ventured nothing gained.

connect the pc speaker,maybe you'll get beep codes that will tell you what's wrong with it.

clear CMOS jump...no good. Note: when i moved the jumper, nothing would come on.
