Building a PC for a friend, looking for motherboard...

Would like DDR (prices are good right now). Want a stable and overclocker friendly board. Planning on AMD 1.4ghz at the moment btw. So what would you guys get? Thinking of these:

EPOX EP-8K7A ($120)
IWILL KK266 ($107)

(Prices from Newegg.com)

I like EPOX boards. Have built 4 amd systems in the last 2 months and all with Epox boards. They have been getting good reviews also.

The KK266 is a KT133A chipset, so it just uses regular SDRAM, not DDR. The Iwill KA266 is based on the ALi Magik and the KD266 is based on the ALi M1649, both of which use DDR memory.

I have the KK266 and after struggling a bit have it running nicely. I've heard many more complaints about the KA266. The KD266 is just too new to know.

I'm sorry I can't give any advice, but since I've never run a DDR board, recommending one would be bad form.

EpoX 8K7A(+), hands down. The best out there right now for performance, stability, and reliability. It's solid as a rock and overclocks to high hell. What more can you ask for? 😀

NewEgg has the 8K7A+ for $142 I believe. If you want RAID functionality, I'd go for it. These are rather hard to locate and that's a great price.

I really like Asus boards but thats just me... alot of people seem to dislike the Asus Athlon solution right now. I am at about 1.5 with a ultra quiet fan
