Hey everyone, I'm building a pc (first time from scratch) and I'm just curious no montior or printer or anything but, just for the pc what would you do to make the best computer for $1,000.

I know I deffinetly want AMD 64 with the 939 pin.
I'm thinking I should wait for the Nvida4 mobo to come out (someone said NOV?)
It's going to be for digital camcording/video not a big gamer but also maybe FFXI.
And I want to overclock most likely.

So Let me know what combos or ideas you have. Any response's are appreciated.

Methinks he means a SFF box.
I would go with a Shuttle NF4 box with an A64/3000+. You're not going to be able to overclock a SFF box unless you do some heavy-duty modifications, or run a really small watercooling kit. (there's one called the posiedon, look into that if you want to pay the extra 100$). An ATI Radeon X700XT (not the 256mb Pro version) or GEforceFx6600 would be the way to go in terms of of a graphics card, and 1gb of Komusa.com's DDR466 HyperRAM is only 180$. A 160GB Samsung SATA drive (100$ at NewEgg) should work spiffy for the hard drive.
So, here's a price estimate:
300$-Shuttle Barebones w/heatsink, PS, etc.
170$-processor, A64 3000+ 90nm
180$ RAM, 1gb PC466 HyperRAM
180$ for graphics card of your choice
100$ Samsung 160GB SATA hdd, 7200rpm/8mb cache
50$ for an inexpensive DVD burner
20$ for random cabling, Arctic Silver, etc.
Total:
1000$
