I am going to be building my first p4 system soon (been AMD ever since I was 12)..here is a list of things I either have or will have soon... I need suggestions on a good video card (I play games, but not a whole lot... so I dont need anything over $170).. also suggestions on memory (I would like to get 2 sticks of 256mb pc3200)... and lastly which heatsink?

Thanks!

hi!

how extreme of an overclock do you plan on doing?

if you want to use pc3200, you'll definitely be using the 5:4 ratio....

depending on how good the pc3200 is you'll be able to hit 3.0 ghz (12 x 250mhz fsb) with no problem... (250 * 4/5 = 200 mhz is whch your ram will run at)...

if you plan on just getting to around 3.0, the retail hsf is good enough....

I would think maybe twice about getting a bit mnore power from the power supply. Ocing will strain the 12v line and I think you want a PSU that does at least 20amps on the 12v rail.

Secondly 3.2ghz will be 266fsb and with the 5:4 divider that would put the memory at 425mhz...Quality pc3200 cas 2 stuff will do that with relaxed timings most likely. My corsair pc3000 does 450mhz ddr at cas 2.5, so it is possible. However some have been able to get 3.4-3.6ghz and if you can pbtain that you will definitely need better memory or hope Asus supports a 3:2 divider on the board.

Also above 3ghz you may want to think about an aftermarket cooler...

Vid card??? No brainer get the ATI 9600pro!!!!;)

yup yup... everything he said!!! :)

but if you REALLY want to use some pc3200 you can always get a 2.4B and push that thing to 190 fsb like thugs does....

and he still manages to get around 3.4 ghz + plus enable all the goodies like GAM and what not...
