Hello all. I'm looking to buy a fairly high-end P4 system in the near future (next week.) I don't know much about the Intel Chips or MoBos, so any advice or recomendations would be welcome.

What's the "best" MotherBoard? Asus P4C800?

What's the best P4 under $300?

Everything else I can figure out. Gonna go with a 9800 Pro, Lian Li casing, NEC 2500A 8X burner, 200 gig SATA HD and 1024 MB of Mushkin 3200. Sound good? Money isn't that big an issue, but I'd like to keep this under $1500. I think it's very doable with a little help from ya'll.

A few months ago I built the rig in my system. I have been quite happy with all the parts. And prices have come down on a number of them.

Sweet, thanks. I'll probably go with the 3.0 E or the 3.06.

Your Asus MB choice is highly regarded.

Also the Abit IC7 (which I chose as an excellent O/C'er). I paid $119 last month.

Best P4? the 2.80c (800FSB) for it's o/c'ing ability @ $185 (mine runs ~3.4ghz).
Wanna spend more or you don't O/C - under $300, go for the 3.0 or 3.2c.

i picked the Mushkin PC3500 for a little extra headroom in O/C'ing . . . I think it is a Hot Deal today . . . make sure you get 2 matched sticks for dual channel.

edit: I would pick a P4 NORTHWOOD (C- 800FSB) CPU, not a P4 Prescott (E) - they run VERY hot. ;)

P4C800 Dlx is a super board - probably the top of the line.

Consider the P4P800 Dlx and the Abit IS7 - excellent boards at a good price

Processor - I would go with a P4 2.8c or 3.0c. I would stay away from the P4 2.8e or 3.0e. They run hotter and their performance isnot as good.

IMHO

The Asus or the Abit, are both excellent choices..

I once owned and 875P Neo...LOL

Asus is great for performance and stability..The Abit, is also excellent in these areas. IMO, i thinks the Abit, is a better OCing board.

I would also go for the 3.0C or even 3.2C.

For around $100, the Asus 4s800e-d deluxe (655tx) is a great deal. With the $$ you save you can go with a 3.0c or 3.2c
