Building a NT4 bdc?

With an already installed NT4 OS, how do I go about making it a BDC and adding it to the PDC? I can't seem to find any option anywhere to do this, and unlike windows 2003 its not as easy as typing dcpromo... not my choice to use NT4.

I know I can do this during the setup, but when I specify the domain or IP address it wont take it. I'm guessing it has no network at that point since the drivers only get installed once windows is done installing.

NT can only be "dcpromo'd" during setup. Can't do it after the fact.

You may need to provide a nic driver via diskette during setup if you are having problems reaching the domain you are joining.

Hmm thats what I was afraid of. Weird part is, it does detect the nic but it just never accepts the domain. I think it has to do with DNS... but if I specify the DC's IP it still wont work, so really not sure.

Trying providing a NIC driver instead of using the one it detects. The inbox nic drivers in NT sucked even when they were new 🙂

They were also notorious for detecting incorrectly. Lots of Compaq NICS detected as intel due to the chipset when then intel driver didn't apply.
