ok im building a new amd system and was wondering what everyone thinks is the best motherboard for the money I was looking at the nforce 415 and wondering if going to 333 or waiting for 400 is worth it

thanks in advance

I was looking at the 415 because it doesnt have onboard video

I would go for the kt266a or 333 board, and get the features you need, but don't pay more than you have to. The kt266a boards are the best value for overall performance and price. Some boards are going for only $49-59. With the money you save, get a better video card or more memory. The kt266a won't benefit from pc2700 memory, but for a few dollars more, you might as well get it for future upgradability. The kt333 offers only a 1-3% performance gain, but only you can decide if it's worth spending the extra money.

Go to Newegg.com and look at the Shuttle AK35GT2R. It has the KT333, C-Meda 5.1 sound, and High-Point raid and cost less than $99.

I just built an nForce 415 system with the Abit NV7-133R. If you are not into overclocking, this board absolutely rocks. It's dirt cheap ($94 shipped Newegg) and has every feature you could ever want (OK, short of firewire) integrated onto the motherboard. My system has all 5 PCI slots empty because I don't need them!

I don't think the Shuttle AK35GT2R has USB 2.0.

I'm looking at building my next one also but can't decide on the Motherboard. I'm looking for USB 2.0 + the 5.1 on board sound.

I agree with o1die. I would go with a kt266a and pc2100 memory(both are cheap these days). You will have a nice system.

NOTE: AMD will probably not raise their front side bus for their CPUs until the end of this year from what I have been reading. So, the KT333 might not be worth getting just yet. By the time the AMD cpu's that will take advantage of the pc2700 memory will come out, there will be motherboards that support DDR400 that will be out by then.
