building a new system

Hello I'm building a new high end AMD system for $2,866 mainly for Cad use but also gaming, Photoshop, etc.
Let me know what you think. Most parts are purchased from newegg.com except for the case because they have a 300watt psu with it and cant upgrade, also the keyboard wich is self explanatory.

Aopen H600B with 400watt psu
Gigabyte GA-K8NSNXP-939
AMD Athlon64 FX-53 2.4GHZ !MB L2 socket 939 retail
Kingston 1GB(2x512MB) PC-3200 Unbuffered Dual DDR kit
Western Digital 7200RPM 160GB 8MB buffer SATA HD
Sony DWU18A 8X DVD+/-RW DRIVE OEM
Sapphire Ati Radeon Ultimate 9600XT 128MB 8X AGP
Microsoft Black IntelliMouse Optical Mouse -OEM
Dell PS/2 Keyboard
MS Windows XP Profession OEM
Sony SDM-X93/B 19" LCD w/ Speakers -Retail
Thermaltake heatpipe PIPE101 3 in 1 CPU Cooler
*note the retail heatsink will not be used just kept for warranty reasons since the bar code thingy is on the fan. Instead I will use the Thermaltake for better cooling and lower noise since the is minimalistic at best 😀

Although your price/performance ratio goes down the drain after spending more than $1000 for a PC (for example, you could build a rig with 90% of the performance for $2000, and keep the rest of your money for upgrades in 12 months to keep it current), here is my ridiculous $3000 rig:

AMD Athlon 64 3800+ S939 - $497

Gigabyte K8NSNXP-939 NF3 Ultra - $225

Corsair 1024MB PC3200 CAS2.5 - $168

Samsung 160GB SATA 7200RPM/8MB - $105.49

NEC 8X Dual Layer DVD +/- RW (Silver) - $82.99

eVGA GeForce 6800 - $288

Logitech Cordless MX DUO - $69.99

Microsoft WindowsXP Professional OEM - $139.99

2X Samsung 191T+ 19" LCD (Silver) - $1265.98

Antec 1080AMG W/ 430W PSU (Silver) - $125

Thermaltake SilentTower - $42.95

TOTAL: $3010.39

The biggest problem with your original config: a powerful workstation without dual-monitors is such a waste...

Personally I would scrap the 2nd 19, grab a 213T, then grab an x800xt/6800U, depending on your pref.

I know you're going for a CAD machine primarily, but I would definitely drop the AMD FX-53 for a A64 3500+ and get a much nicer graphics card.

the suggestion of dropping back on some of the components and making a 90% as fast machine...and then upgrading with the saved money 6 months down the road is actually a really good sugggestion. Just really hard to follow since it is always tempting to have the newest and best.
