I'm thinking about building a new system so I can do some majar 3D works on maya. so here is a list i came up with so far:

CPU - AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Venice 1 GHz FSB Socket 939 ($146)
Motherboard - ASUS A8V Deluxe Socket 939 VIA K8T800 Pro ($114)
Memory - OCZ EL Platinum Revision 2 (2 x 512 MB) DDR400/PC3200 ($169.95 - $18 MIR)
Case - Antec P180 ($149)
PSU - Coller Master Real Power RS-450-ACLX ($61.99 - $20 MIR)
Video card - ATI 100-435105 Radeon 9800PRO 256MB DDR ($179.00)
HD - Western Digital Caviar SE 250GB ($115.50)

total after tax and shipping is about $1,052.75.. ouch...

please give me your thoughts on this setup.. and hopefully this setup wont be too out-dated any time soon.. should i wait on any new parts or price drops? any suggestions?? thanx..

Please dont get the 9800Pro....its out of date....instead get a 6600GT or a X800GT, both are about the same but the X800GT just edges out a bit

For the motherboard, please get a Asus A8N-E or a Abit AN8 Ultra
Via chipset isnt nice

Do you really need P180 ? :S Get an Sonata II you saved $40 from the p180 and $41 from the extra PSU...🙂 $81 extra to buy a new card, I dunno if monarch still has an X800XL for $250 or not...but not you can atleast get a better card than the 9800Pro.

9800 Pro for $180?! Are you crazy? A 6600GT will slap it silly and save you some bucks.
Also, you're much better off, if you want CPU power, to bump up to a 3200+ or 3500+, and go with some more basic RAM at half the cost.

Do you plan to game much?
Either way, you might as well go with a better VC (you can get better , and go ahead and change to PCI-e.

Do you plan to OC?
If so, go with an NF4 (PCI-e) Epox, MSI, or DFI. IMO Via is ok, but the NF3/4 chipset is better, especially for OC'ing.

Ewwwww

That is one ugly setup.

1. CPU=Great
2. MOBO=nice, but there are other choices
3. RAM I would spend more here and save on other things.....go with 2GB of that memory
4. Case=AWESOME, but I would save some money here and go with the Sonata or Lanboy like already mentioned
5. PSU=not that great, go with an Enermax PSU
6. Video card=9800 SUxOR, go with a x800GT, the price isn't too bad and it blows away the 9800
7. HD=ehhhh it's ok I guess

I'm so glad that i came here before ordering the parts.. i guess i still have more research to do..

I am a diehard Asus fan, and i think i'll do more reading on the A8N-E borad..

yeah.. i was trying to be cheap on the video card.. (what's the matter with me!!) now i guess i have the pci-express option.. and maybe thinking about doing dual monitoring... any cards that arent over $200?

lol.. i guess i dont really need a P180.. but that case is freaking sweet. =P

I read that the AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Venice can be easily OC with the stock fan, I was also thinking of getting the 2 gig of ram.. but thought that OCZ is a awsome deal and also for the speed.

sigh.. its all about budgeting.. maybe i dont need the P180.. maybe instead of the case, i should spend more on the cpu and the graphic card.. thanx for the inputs.. =)
