I want to build a new rig that will handle the new
games that are being released.

The components that I am looking at are:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Conroe 2.4GHz 4M shared L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor

FSP Group (Fortron Source) FX700-GLN ATX12V V2.2/EPS12V 700W Power Supply 100

Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16820148069

LG L226WTY-BF Black 22" 2ms DVI Widescreen LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 3000:1

I just wanted to ask what others thought of these choices

I'd buy the e6750 over the e6600. You don't need a power supply like that btw, that rig will be fine with a corsair 450w, 520hx, or perhaps a antec earthwatt 500. They will deliver all the power you need, but will be of better qaulity and come with longer warranty's. Ram, I'd pick 4gb of this ram, http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16820145590 over 2gb of your ram any time of the day. The ddr2 800 will let you overclock your cpu beyond what the stock cooler can handle anyways.

I don't know very much about lcd screens. I just bought a somewhat cheap acer al2016w, 20 inch widescren, 1680*1050 and it's great. Perhaps the http://www.newegg.com/Product/...6824009105&Tpk=al2051w is a screen that you might wanna look into. 200$ seems to be a pretty good deal on that monitor :)

Videocard looks good, so does the mobo.

Processor: Get the E6750 over the E6600. It is even cheaper than the E6600 and performs better, or go quad core for around $290 with the Q6600.

Video Card: With that monitor, I would at least get the 8800GTS 640MB as games use more and more VRAM, especially on bigger monitors like that one. Consider the 8800GTX if you can afford it too.

Everything else there is fine, though I've never heard of that power supply company. Might want to swap it out for a Corsair, OCZ or PC Power & Cooling.

If you're looking for a hard drive. I recommend you the Western Digital SE16 500GB. Can be had for $100.

You might also want 4GB of RAM for some of these bigger games but you can always add that later on.

If you buy Vista make sure you get at least Vista Home Premium and get the 64 bit edition.

Hope that helps.

The screen is 1680*1050, the 8800gts 320mb performs the same in 99% of the games out there at that resolution compared to the 8800gts 640mb. Oh yeah, and if you do get 4gb of ram, you of course need a 64 bits OS, like Vista x64. FSP's aren't bad PSU's btw, it's just that 700W is overkill ...

My bad, I thought it was around 1600x1200 where you started seeing a difference. Either way, more VRAM will come in handy in upcoming games when you want to increase the eye candy to max.

That's because 1600x1200 (1.92Mpixels) is more than 1680x1050 (1.76Mpixels). For some games that extra ~9% could be enough to be the tipping point, but it's probably uncommon.

The latest review from hardocp with a dozen or so games tested actually showed no differences even at 1900*1280. I think you're pretty save at 1680*1050 with 320mb of vram.

that PSU is very good, but as was mentioned before you won't need 700w. corsair hx520 is a good choice. or any listed here (although i have heard of compatibility problems with antec psu's)

Thanks for the replies.

I decided to get the E6750 intead of the E6600,
and the OCZ GameXStream OCZ600GXSSLI
ATX12V 600W power supply instead of the FSP
700w supply.

I also decided to get the GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L
instead of the GIGABYTE GA-P35-S3L.

I'm also looking at the ViewEra V220D-B Black 22
instead of the LG L226WTY-BF Black

As far as memory, whatever is compatible with the
GA-P35-DS3L. The memory compatibility sheet on
the motherboard manufacturers website is not very
comprehensive.

What's with you and the FSP Epsilon based PSU's? Why not get something that's built solid and known good? Is it because of budget? Availability?
