Get the NEC 3520A burner. It's at newegg for 49.99, though there's evil shipping charges now :(

Your system specs are very perplexing. You say you don't want AMD, which is the superior CPU, and that's all fine and dandy. To each his own. Assuming then that overall system performance is not a main concern, the choice of 512MB of RAM vs. 1GB makes sense. But get two sticks of RAM, even it it's two 256MB sticks. Dual Channel is worth it. A single stick is a waste with that CPU. Also, P4 processors outside of the Dual-Core CPU's take no advantage of RAM that fast. You'll be lucky to get PC3200 throughput out of that RAM with that CPU and mobo. You'd be better off getting a pair of 512MB or 256MB PC4300 or even PC3200 DDR2 and running them in dual-channel.

amd is highly frowned upon in the business world, very few companies use amd processors for there workstations/servers. the price diff between amd and intel isnt that much these days if you factor in cpu-mb-case-ram-cooling.

are you saying the mb i picked isnt that good or just get 2 sticks of ram instead of 1?

Very few businesses use AMD largely because Dell has an exclusive contract with Intel. When the world's largest PC maker has an exclusive contract, it kinda tends to inflate numbers.

It's not the mobo that's not good, it's the mobo and CPU together that are not good for that RAM. If you stick with that CPU and mobo, get slower RAM and get two sticks so you can run dual-channel.

Actually, most businesses use Intel just because their big major providers got deals with Intel. Intel is also older than AMD, so they grabbed market share early on and AMD didn't start out so strongly. They became the poor man's CPU. Plus, in their teething stages, their chips were hotter than Intel's offerings.

Yeah, it's the "If it ain't broke" adage. Only, AMD is no longer "broken" like they were in their early days.

Another reason intel is more favored in the business world tends to be that certain business software (according to my uncle) isn't compatible with amd. No clue.

Edit: I don't want to turn this into a flame war thread, I'm just quoting what my uncle said.

replace compatible with optimized and you will be a bit closer...

The only reason not to buy A64 right now is irrational hatred or clinical retardation.

Loki's right. If the software can run on x86, then it can run on both Intel and AMD. Only thing that would possibly be different are Hyper-Threading optimizations or the like.

Dude, that motherboard calls for DDR......not DDR2. I think a little more research is in order on your part. Or just get a dell.

Ha, thanks for the correction, man. I've never owned a P4 and just assumed he picked the right kind of RAM for the mobo.

Can I suggest maybe get the Antec SLK3000-B case w/out power supply, and pick up a separate 350W+ Enermax or another quality unit with plenty of 12-volt amperage. If you can get a 24-pin unit, that'll be good down the road too.

The SLK3000-B case is similar to the SLK3700AMB, but is all black to match your drive(s), and has the special side duct to feed your CPU with cool air directly. I'm planning to get one soon myself.

Also, I happen to have that exact XFX video card, and am looking to unload it since I'm switching to a PCI-Express platform. You have good Heat and are in the US, so drop me a PM if you're interested.
