are you going to OC? What are you mainly going to use your computer for? Just gaming?

For a gaming rig, i would go with the single cores for now. If you have money go with a 3700+ SD or if you want to save and just overclock go with a 3000+ venice. 3000+ venices usually get pretty high OCs. With the money you saved from getting a single core, you could also upgrade your memory to 2gb instead of 1gb. I would also like Finns stated above, wait for the 512mb gtx's to come out and prices might fall unless you really need it now. And if you want better load times, invest in a good sata drive like a 7200.8 or a diamondmax 10. Also, the NEC 35xx series dvd burners have been great for me. Theyre cheap also. AND i do think the upgrade to an audigy2 zs is worth it. Add another 10-20 bucks and get yourself a zs. More updates and you can softmod that sucker into an audigy4 pro! And dont forget to invest in a quality psu! get a dfi mobo if youre ocing or stick with the asus..

*AMD A64 3700+ or 3000+
*MSI K8N NEO4 PLATINUM NF4 ULTRA PCI-E 16X/2X PCI-E 4P (159.99$) or ASUS A8N-SLI DELUXE 4DDR Aud+Gbe+1394a 2PCI-Ex16+2PCI-Ex1+3PCI (199.99$)
*Kingston 1024 MO RAM (126.99$) Get 2gb for upcoming games
*Western Digital 160 GB 7200RPM (93.99$)
*DVD Burner +/- R/RW LG 4167B 16X DL (51.99$) NEC3540a?
*Disk 1,44 (13$)
*Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Value 6.1 (54.99$) ZS!
*MSI 7800GTX 256MO TV-Out (619.99$)
*ANTEC-Sonata 380W-120mm (139$) or ThermalTake Highest Xaser III VM3000A (149$)

thanks a lot...you're completely right...I will go with the 3700+...any particular one I should get?

as for the vid card...I kind of need it in the next 7 days cuz I already sold my old rig...and I have papers and stuff to do for school...but a GTX is OVERALL worth the 100$ I guess...is it not?

my 7800gt so far has been great.. i can run all the games i play at the highest settings without any problems. Its really up to you. I honestly don't think +10-20fps is worth the 100 bucks. I upgraded from an x800xt to a 7800gt. Now that was a good upgrade. Nearly 2x better for 100 bucks. If you have the money go for it. And a particular 3700+? I believe theres only one s939 3700+ and thats the san diego core. Are you planning to overclock? If you are, i would really consider the 3000+ to save BIG bucks and just OC it. I've built a ton of 3000+ venice systems that OCed easily to 2.6ghz no problem. There isn't very much noticable difference between 2.6-2.8ghz. Or atleast none that i noticed.

The #1 selling PC game of all time is simulation... The Sims 2. More copies sold than all four mentioned FPS titles put together.

What about the nvidia multithreaded drivers? I heard they gave 10-30% performance increase on dual core CPU's.

It's only a matter of time before games take major advantage of multiple CPUs too.

I would take the ASUS motherboard if i were you, but that's just a personal preference.

I dunno about canadian prices (i live in Australia), but the 7800GT is signifactly cheaper that the 7800GTX here, and the performance difference isn't all that much.

Consider getting 2GB (2x 1GB) of RAM - especially since you play BF2 and FEAR.

If I were you, I wouldn't buy a sound-card until I'd heard the onboard sound - personally, onboard sounds fine to me.
