Building a New PC - Need Help

I'm building a new system and need some help. As you can tell from my current setup its been a while since I built a system and want to go with AMD this time around.

Here is my current set up.
P4 1.8 Ghz
512 mb ram
ATI Radeon 9200 AGP
160 gb HD
Antec 350W PS
Intel 845 MB
Nec DVD-RW
Phillips LCD max res 1280 x 1024 - will be used with new system

Here is what i'm looking at

AMD X2 4200+
ASUS A8N-SLI or ASUS A8N-E Ultra Motherboard
Antec Truepower 2.0 550W PS
Corsair ValueSelect 1 gb RAM
WD SE16 250 gb hard drive
Lite-on DVD-RW DL

Video Card ? was looking at getting 2 evga 7800GT's or maybe 1 7800GTX.
I would like to be able to play games like F.E.A.R., HL2 with high settings. The system will also be used for some work applications, accounting program, light photoshop work, etc.

Any suggestions would be great. Thanks

how is sli a bad idea?it depends what he is using it for. If you want the bragging rights, sure SLi is awesome, but realistically, you are going to want to opt out on 1 really good graphic card. I would suggest to just get a 7800GT if you dont want the overkill in the gaming department, and save the money you were going to spend on another 7800GT to futureproof yourself in the video card area. As for the X2, i would suggest a Opteron. They are both dual cores, and Opterons are great overclockers.

Since you aren't running higher than 1280x1024 I'd go with the 7800GT, it will be more than enough. SLI is a complete waste if you aren't running at at least 1600x1200. Everything else looks great, thats a very nice upgrade. I would prefer an NEC or BenQ drive over the Lite-on though.

So the 7800GT will allow me to play games like F.E.A.R. and HL2 with settings on high? If so thats great. As far as overclocking and going with the Opteron over the X2, not sure i will overclock. Never overclocked before and not sure I want to. I want the system as stable as possiable. Thanks

I agree with the single 7800GT it will play anything on high settings at 1280x1024.
You could spend the money you save on 2x1024 ram, BF2 currently runs smoother with 2gig and new apps will eventually need more than 1gig

You could try a X1900XT ( or was the good one XL?) based card too, unless you're running Linux.
