Building a new house...

Depends on location. Depends on contractor. Depends on the owners of the land you want to build it on. Try looking in your local classifieds.

The house might be anywhere from around $100,000+ not including land. Very, very vague and tough question to answer with no specifics. Check real estate companies in your area and see what new-ish homes go for. That'll be a rough ballpark for what it will cost to build.

The cost of plywood and waferboard is at a very high price right now... adding as much as 10k to the price of a home. It's expected to go down in november. Thus, your price will vary greatly just on when you commit to building. 100k seems awfully high for a starting price for that size house. (since it doesn't include the land). But, labor costs also depend on the area. Personally, I'm planning on a similar sized house, but don't expect to pay more than 60 or 70k, including 40 acres of land... I'm doing 90% of the construction myself (or with family or friends), and I'm doing it over a 3 or 4 year period to avoid having to finance much. (if any of it)

brick vinyl, 1 story or 2? garage? bonus space? Way too vague.

Stone and cedar. 2 story. Attached 2 car garage. Full finished basement and den.

Can I do this for under $60,000? 😀

Can I do this for under $60,000?

Including lot? And Garage? Well or city water? Not hardly unless you can do the foundation and a large portion of the other work yourself.

The real key here is - how many square feet we talking? 3br, 2bath could be 1100 sq/ft, or it could be 3,000 sq/ft.

fyi, my co worker is building a ~2300 sq ft colonial style house for around 204k, not including the land. The land is worth about 80k, a house like this on the market is about 325k.

In metro Detroit I just built a 1850 sq ft, 3 bed, 3 bath, study, full brick, attached oversized garage and full basement for $215k.

You might have to check my math but $60,000 for 2000 square foot house is only $30/sq foot. Rule of thumb for me is $100/sq foot, not including lot.
