Building a new gaming system. Need input

Well I just bought a new one actually, but ive had nothing but issues with it. I bought the barebones and then went out and bought a 6800 oc and an extra 512 of memory.

The PSU in the system is causing reboots and the driver issues are pissing me off, so im returning it for my money back.

Now, I need to build another system, and I want input from you guys.

ill be ordering from NCIX.com most likely, unless you guys know of any other good Canadian Outlets.

I dont want to spend more than $800CDN after taxes.

I already have a BFG 6800OC and 512 Kingston ValueRAM DDR400

I want something @ least equiv to the P4 3.0HT which I have now, if not better. I dont care about AMD/Intel, jut wahtever is best for GAMING.

Please post your reommendations.

Athlon64 3200+, and your choice of: (socket 754 CPU + Asus K8N-E Deluxe motherboard) or (socket 939 CPU + MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum motherboard). That's just my humble opinion though. 🙂 And try the CoolMAX CX400B power supply, 400 watts.

Just some suggestions:
MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum $189.81
AMD Athlon64 3200+ (retail) $266.33
512MB Kingston ValueRAM PC3200 $139.15

That comes to $595.39 CN, which leaves you a fair amount of room for other components.

 to all of that. Get whatever case you want, but make sure you get a good PSU. Enermax, Seasonic, Fortron, and Antec are some good names to look for.

ill for sure pick up another stick of ram 😀 I was looking at the 939 everything looks nice. Will this perform better than the p4 3.0 even though it runs @ a slower speed??

Yes--architectural differences, especially higher IPC (instructions per clock) and the on-die memory controller, allow a 2GHz A64 to outperform a 2.2GHz AXP, 3.2GHz P4, and in gaming, often even higher-ranked P4s.

Heres what im thinking for my system, please post any suggestions you might have as per changes.

Am I missing anything Ill need?

I take it you're carrying over your old drives, input devices, speakers, and monitor. That setup looks good, and that 3200+ should go to at least 2.2 or 2.3 on the stock cooler, 2.6 or 2.7 with an aftermarket unit.

That's onboard. The Neo2 has onboard sound, gigabit LAN, USB, Firewire, SPDIF, etc.

You'll need a hard disk, an optical drive or two, and a floppy disk (well, you can probably skip that, but it's only like $10) if you don't already have them.
