Building a New Gaming Rig

Hey all,
I'm thinking of building a new PC in the next couple of months.
What I'm currently using:
FX-51
1024 3200 RAM
120 GB SCSI HD
GeForce FX 5950

My budget is $900-1200. I'm looking for upgradability, so I won't have to completely rescrap my rig again for a few years. I think my machine should be built with gaming in mind. I mostly use my computer for internet and word processing because I'm a student, but I used to be a hardcore gamer back in the day and still would like to be able to get in an hour of the next greatest FPS every once in a while. I'm also a total newb, but wouldn't be afraid to try overclocking.

Any suggestions for builds?

So far I have these parts:
Silver P180
Antec Treo 650
Viewsonic vx2025xm

Parts from my current computer that I plan on re-using:
Lite-ON JLMS XJ-HD166S
PLEXTOR DVDR PX-708A
Audigy 2 ZS
Floppy Drive

Are my optical drives okay? Or will they be a bottleneck?

Thanks.

Your Plextor is a better unit than your Lite-on. Have you ever had reading problems with your Lite-on?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I have had problems with the Lite-on in the past. I'll probably just spend the extra 50+ bucks on a good drive.

Maybe a e6400 and a 8800GTS, or a e6600 and whatever offer ATi has (not up to date on that)

Should fit the budget

If you want upgradeability then perhaps SLI board is what you need...get one card now and one later..plus go with C2D system now and be able to possibly (mobo depending) plop ina quad core later...Maybe the morons will start making the game multithreaded

What boards are quad core compatible?

Thanks all for the replies.

Why are game developers morons?
