Right now I'm getting the parts list together for my new computer, and it would be a great help if you could take a look at the list and make any suggestions. I'm open to any improvements for this gaming rig, but I don't want to spend much on a graphics card right now, given that DX10 just arrived, and the cards for it will soon be affordable. I was thinking about getting two 250 GB HDD in a raid 0, because it?s the same price as a 500 GB.

Here's my list:

  • Thermaltake Circle RH-F030-2SW Silver SECC 0.8mm (Chassis) Aluminum (Front Panel) ATX Full Tower Computer Case - Retail : $84.99

    OCZ GameXStream OCZ600GXSSLI ATX12V 600W Power Supply - Retail : $129.99

    GIGABYTE GA-965P-S3 LGA 775 Intel P965 Express ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail : $118.99

    Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Conroe 2.4GHz LGA 775 Processor Model BX80557E6600 - Retail : $316.00

    BFG Tech BFGR76256GTOCE GeForce 7600GT 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card ? Retail : $139.99

    CORSAIR ValueSelect 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 533 (PC2 4200) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model VS2GBKIT533D2 ? Retail :$189.99

    Two Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD2500KS 250GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive ? OEM : 2 * $79.99 = $149.98

RAZER DeathAdder RZ01-00150100-R2M1 Black 5 Buttons 1 x Wheel USB Optical High Precision Gaming Mouse ? Retail : $59.99

    Ideazon FANG Gamepad ? Retail : $28.99

    Total : $1,238.90

Any input would be much appreciated, especially in regards to memory. Is it worth it to spend more on something like XMS series performance RAM, or will the value memory be enough?

Overclocking or no?
I'd get a Corsair HX620 over the OCZ for quietness+cleaner power

idk -- it always seems to me that things just go downhill with memory with the words "Value" near them. I never think that anyone should cheap out on memory, and that you should try to look at least for something with heatsinks on them.

Going with a cheaper vid card until you can afford DX10 isn't a bad idea, however check this out instead, I'd go for it. Cheaper and you may be able to use the step-up program

I'll also 2nd Gautama2 on the Corsair PSU. You can do better than OCZ. Can also check Seasonic or Silverstone.

The memory you can do better with DDR2-800 since it's about the same price as the 533 and it will leave extra performance room.

It also depends too, as noted above, are you going to o/c? If so, you could save on the processor and get the e4300/e6300/e6400, save money for the better graphics card (which will really matter in gaming) and o/c the cheaper processor to performance equal to or better than the e6600.

Also, the mobo is only $108
