Building a new Computer, need some input

Hi there guys, my first post here.

Was thinking about upgrading my current system:

600W Corsair Power Supply

AMD Phenom x4 965 BE

A very bad graphicscard (not worth talking about it, 512 vram and no directx 11)

8GB DDR3 RAM @ 1333mhz

1TB Sata

Decent AM3+ Mainboard

Will use the computer for gaming mainly, would like to overclock aswell, not needed though.

Only thing that i want to keep is the PSU as 600w is more than enough and maybe the RAM (not sure if 1600mhz is much better than 1333mhz in gaming)

My budget is around 600-700 €

Do you guys think it's still worth to buy a I5 2500k ?

Friend would sell me one for 90 €

2500k is good if you can find a lga1155 mobo. Not interested in using a new chip in your current mobo? (It's not the best option but not the worst either.)

Personally open to AMD aswell, but i didn't really read alot of good things about them

Question is, would a 8320/8350 perform better in games than a i5 2500k/another intel of the newer generation ?

Also, are these cpus future-proof ? im upgrading my system once every 3-4 years

Unless you can find a killer deal, I wouldn't buy a 4 generation old Intel CPU. A 2500K will probably fare a bit better than an FX-8, but the cost of moving to an FX-8 will be considerably less.

Here's why you'd rather move to a new Intel CPU:

Intel's 6th generation i3's (i3 6xxx) offer a great value, and will probably come out to around the same price as a 2500K + board, and you won't have to worry about using 4+ year old hardware.

Or, for quite a bit less, you can probably just drop an FX-8 right into your current motherboard. It will be a huge upgrade over what you have, and is still "fast enough" for today's games. You could probably delay upgrading your entire system for another year or two, perhaps longer, depending on how picky you are.

Alright, so i'll get a FX 8320/8350, will i be able to overclock the cpu without any problems or do i need a special mainboard for that ?

Also, what do you think about my current ram, is that enough ?

You should go with the fastest ram you can afford that your board will support.

For the FX 8 core, you want at least 1866 CL10 ram, I think.

The 1333 ram will not be too big of a handicap, though.

What mobo do you have?

The FX chips are unlocked, so a decent overclock is typically easily done.

You may find the stock FX cooler to be too loud, though.

What board?

AM3+ should support 1866 ram, I believe.

Better make sure the board supports a Vishera FX chip.

It will work, but you need a bios update. I think DDR3 1333 will be fine; toss in another 8GB (or leave it be) and you'll be a happy camper.

Hi there guys, my first post here.

Was thinking about upgrading my current system:

keep your HD, your PSU, and your case. also, the monitor.
