Sooooooooo, about an hour ago I was lucky enough to destroy my first computer (I think I ruined the memory, the other components are fine, i am going to test stuff and sell whatever works XP 2000+, 512MB DDR 266 mem, 7200 RM 40GB Maxtor and 80GB WD, MSI KT333, please PM if you would want anything that works). Static electricity is fun, but costly. Lucky, I was going to rebuild the computer in about a week.

Annnyways, tomorrow I am going to go get replacement parts. I haven't been keeping too up to date on my hardware, so please give me some advice. This is what I am thinking:

S939 Athlon 64 3000+ Retail - $190
Geil Value Dual Channel 1GB (512MBX2) PC3200 - $124
Gigabyte GA-K8NF-9 - $139
GF 6800 GT - ~$230, depending on brand, I'm thinking Gigabyte
2xMaxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 SATA/150 80GB 7200RPM 8MB Buffer (OEM) for raid setup - $164

oh, these are $CAD of course :p I already have an SB Live Value!, 330W Antec PSU, dvd burner, peripherals, etc.

So?

The price is a bit high on that A64.
And the geil memory.
And the MB.
Excellent price on the video card (where are you getting it?)
Not too bad on the HD.

Have you given any consideration to what core A64 you'll be getting? Venice and san diego are the latest, and you can get a 3200+ for around $190 from several places on the internet.

Edit: Er... how does the canadian $ compare to the US $ these days. I might have to adjust my viewpoint...

Are you sure it's not a 6600gt or plain 6800? That price seems incredible.

The 6800gt goes for about $300 in AGP and closer to $350 in PCI-e here in the states.

Are you planning on RAID0 or RAID1 with those drives? I normally think RAID0 is not worth it for regular computers.
