Building a new comp

I'm going to be buying a comp in about a month. I'm kind of on a budget (around 1500 including monitor) but I want to build something thats going to be future proof for a good 2-3 years at least. I'd definitely like to go for a gaming/media build. 🙂 I have a friend that can overclock for me but I'd greatly appreciate some suggestions or some info to guide me in the right direction. 🙂 Again, thanks for the help.

I would recommend a Conroe Intel Processor. It should be future proof, it being dual core and a lot faster than any previous AMD or Intel chip. A big performance upgrade.

1.5 k is a lot of money. I would suggest getting a view sonic VA1912wb lcd panel (WIDESCREEN). VERY NICE and clear.

Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 - ~$220
Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 - $143 + $7 shipping
Corsair VS 2x1GB DDR2-667 - $148 + $5 shipping
Sapphire X1900XT 512MB - $356 + $7 shipping, $30 mail-in rebate
Samsung SP2504C 250GB - $73 + $5 shipping
Pioneer DVR-111D - $37, free shipping
FSP FSP400-60GLN - $44 + ~$7 shipping
Antec SLK3000B - $29 + ~$20 shipping
Viewsonic VX2025WM - $330 + $14 shipping

Total - $1421 after rebate (check the arithmetic)

By the time you're actually ready to order, more motherboards will be available that support Core 2 Duo. Pick one that can OC well, since the C2Ds have a lot of untapped potential.
