I need some general help. My PSU is old, but has heavy wattage. It?s prolly a good 5 year old OCZ 550w PSU, but im sure it doesn?t have PCI-e 2.0, let alone enough for a Crossfire setup.

I plan on OC?ing my processor to at least 3.8ghz and need some advice on a fan and cooler for it. I?m trying to be as budget as I can on all fronts here, so I don?t need the best of the best, I just need the best value.

So im looking for ultimately help on the cooler/fan/recommended paste and for a PSU that?s gonna be powerful enough and have the right connections for a 2x crossfires 4870 1gig setup.

Much appreciated!

Get a new PSU. There is a big difference between old 500W PSUs and New ones. Your system power needs pretty much come down to how many amps are availible on teh 12V rails. Well older PSUs don't supply as much power to the 12V rails as new ones do. That old PSU of yours may be able to supply about 24A or 26A tops. New 500W PSUs offer about 32A or more to the 12V rails. Also age on a PSU is never good. They only get worse over time.

As for coolers start checking out reviews. Gnerally Zailman CPU coolers are highly reguarded.

I would strongly recommend a UD3R or UD3P seeing you will be able to upgrade to a quad later on and do some nice overclocking with your Quad. Its a fail safe move. I'm sure you're going to take your overclocking adventure to the limit and the sky is the limit with the UD3R & P boards with a quad.

Please remove the Asus board and insert a Gigabyte board.

on a side note, I've been an Asus fan for the past 8-9 yrs

like they do in AA meetings *hi my name is .... and I'm a converted Gigabyte user*
