Building a new box... do I NEED to resintall Windows?

Just as the title says. I'd like to build a new box for my parents, but they have all sorts of random programs on it that I can't reinstall. So that means that I can't wipe the hard drive and reinstall Windows. Is that going to cause a problem when I install the new motherboard drivers? Or is there another solution to this dilemma?

Thanks

When I switched to the Q9450 from an X2 I could boot in windows fine but all the motherboard drivers had to install first. I would uninstall all the old motherboard stuff before putting in the new hardware and have the new drivers ready to install once you get into windows (especially the integrated LAN if you use it).

I just went through this - while other report success I had failure. I *thought* had removed all the mb/amd drivers but I missed something and I could never figure out what it was (i.e, repair and install repair didn't fix the problem nor could I find it in the logs). In the end I gave up and reinstalled. Then again with the removal of all the securom and similar layers my system is once again fast (disk i/o was getting pretty slow) so it wasn't a total lost :)

I uninstalled the Nforce 2 drivers and dropped into an intel core 2 duo box (upgrade from a Duron 900!) and everything seems to be going fine, so far.

Thanks!

do you NEED your computer to work properly without weird bugs or incompatibility?

Reinstalling is wonderful delicious thing.. I do it at least every 4 months. (the time between reinstalls has been going down with windows versions released)
