Building a Media Center PC need help

Hello all,

i am building a media center pc and plan on using an antec p182se namely for looks. I am wondering if there is a remote control that can turn on the pc with the door on the case shut as well as control WMC.

The most important thing is that i need the remote control to turn on the pc from a powered down state. is this even possible?

any other solutions that might work?

Thanks for any help.

You want something like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-001-_-Product

The remote should be able to power up cold, although I've never set up my HTPCs like that...it's far more convenient to bring the box out of sleep mode. So I can't give you a definite answer. I can say that on one of my HTPCs, I must disable the remote devices from waking the machine, otherwise all fans continue running after going into sleep mode.

Curious about your case choice...mid tower? And if you're concerned with looks, I highly recommend the Silverstone LC-17. I have one for the primary HTPC, and it's absolutely gorgeous.

Thanks for the info guys.

Yes it is a mid tower case that i had from a former build, but it looks so good with the mirror finish i want to continue to use it. HTPC seems like the best way to show it off.

And yeah i figured as much that i will need to be using an IR recevier, at any rate upon further research looks like i will need to keep it on at least in sleep mode in order to record stuff anyway.

If anything else i can just get a dedicated HTPC case w/remote and put a mirror finish on it custom...

The only way to turn on a computer by remote is if it is in sleep mode. Most newer power supplies are very efficient in sleep mode so I would'ne worry too much about power consumption.
I have had very good luck with this remote. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00224ZDFY
It even has a touchpad-like button that works like a mouse.
