Building a laptop from scratch for Recording

I was thinking of upgrading my current workstation for everyday use and Recording bands from a 2600+ AMD to a 64 version somewhere around 3500 to 3700.

I had to drag my crt monitor and bigass tower and everything to record out of town and it was a pain in the rear end and was wondering if it would be possible to "cheaply" build a laptop? where can i get the boards and chips for laptops as well as the cases?

I've built a few workstations but never ventured into laptops so i might not know what I'm getting myself into.

Agree - but a question deserves an answer. I would not look only at Dell. I would also look at some good ones on E-Bay.

The info on the barebones system was very helpful. Atleast gave me some insight into how these guys are put together. I realize it might have been pointless but I thought i'd atleast throw it out there. After all, if this is mainly for audio recording i'd probably be better off going with a powerbook. But since i know how to build computers, am very thorough and already setup for windows i figured i'd see what i could get.

Those desk top replacements from dell do look super sexy though

I don't suppose anyone has ever seen some kind of module device that would allow you to hook up a pci card that would normally be in a desktop, to hook up to a laptop? theres got to be a way to do that. my audio interface has a breakout box that is hooked to the pci card and was wondering if there was any way possible to get that to work with any laptop.
