building a guitar amp..

Im about to start building my own guitar, and I recently had a wild idea of building my own amp to go with it. But my electrical skills are limited to soldering wires (if you even want to consider that electrical skill ).

right now it's just an idea, but if I ever did it I think I would make a tube (valve) amp..

Has anyone ever done something like this? would this be anything like building a regular speaker?

If you're doing this to save money, forget it. If you're doing it as a hobby, there are a lot of websites that walk you through the process. You're essentially making an amplified feed that connects to a speaker. You'll want the amp to be powerful enough to overdrive the speaker (causing distortion), but not so overdriven that you start melting soldiers.
