Building a gaming rig, your thoughts?

I already have a Dell UltraSharp 2007WFP LCD Monitor, Logitech G5 Mouse, Logitech Elite Media Keyboard, Steelpad 5L Mousepad, and Logitech Z-5450 5.1 Speakers. I need the tower basically. With a budget of two-thousand dollars for the tower alone, what components would you choose if you were building a gaming rig for yourself?

Thanks in advance,

I would get a dual core AMD socket 939, maybe even the cheapest 3800+ and overclock it. Sure there are faster AMDs and the new Intels are fast (but way too expensive and hard to find at the moment) but I think with what is out there I would go this route. I figure get that and a decent video card and you are set for all current progams & games for a good year or more. I think it's smarter to save the cash with the "obsolete tech" now which can handle everything fine, and wait another year or so and see how quad core and god knows what else does. With AMD and Intel battling each other, the only ones to reap the benefits are us the consumer. And don't forget, with DX10 coming out in the next year or so, you'll need a new video card to support it anyway.

6600
Gigabyte P965 DS3
2GB DDR2 800
Shiny graphics card
430W/500W PSU (depending on AMD/ATI)
Case.

There is no point to buying an AMD CPU for high end.

With 2000 bucks, you could definitely do a conroe. I have 2000 cdn, and I got a conroe, a 7600gs, DDR2-800, a UPS, a server HDD, and a UPS, and a NEC 70GX2. Oh and a palm TX and a keyboard. tax was included.

most recent gaming build (for neighbor):

c2d 6600
gigabyte dq6
2gb corsair xms ddr2-800 cas4
x1900xt
s12-600
74gb raptor 16mb cache
nec 3550
p160 case

I wouldn't get an AMD.

I suggest your build include the following:
E6600
P5W DH
x1900xtx or 7950gx2
