Really loud optical drive...I thought my 3500A was really quiet compared to any Lite-On, and then I got my S223Q a couple of months ago. Wow...even the drawer eject is whisper quiet.

SATA connectors suck on the mobo, just be prepared.

Otherwise, looks like a nice build.

Are you going to, in the near future, get another GTX280 to warrant the higher cost of an SLI board??? And like said above, the Samsung drives are great. I have one.

No plans for OCing...
Dump the PC2-8500 Reaper in favor of some quality 1.8-1.9v PC2-6400 for your pal.

A single video card...
Dump the SLI MB in favor of a nice P45 based board.

750W PS...
Your chum won't need that much with the listed setup.

This RAM would be perfect for him then since he's not overclocking. No rebates needed or anything.

Nothing wrong with the G.Skill kit, but there's a 2x2GB Corsair kit going for $25 after rebate if he's willing to go that route. I agree that you should step down to DDR2-800 and save a couple bucks.

Get a P45 motherboard also, as Blain said.

By the way, who's responsible for maintaining/troubleshooting the machine?
