Building a Gaming Controller

I'm a current user of the Belkin Nostromo SpeedPad n52 and I'm looking to build a controller for my right hand that has a similar layout.

I'm planning to replace the buttons used by the thumb with a trackball, but otherwise keep it very similar.

Part List
$60 - P.I. Engineering X-keys Matrix Board
$20 - 2 x 10 pack of Cherry MX Switches
$10 - 2 x 10 Pyramidal Replacement Keys 1x1 (set of 10)
$25 - Logitech Trackman Wheel Optical USB

I'm also planning on using a USB hub (built in the devices) to connect everything together.

I'm curious if people have any experience with these products and/or suggestions on how to do things differently.
