Building a game/everyday machine.

Hey all, I'm into looking to building a Game/everyday use machine and I was wondering what you guys think of these items so far.

Asus P4C800E Motherboard
P4 2.4C cpu Retail
ATI 9800PRO (either retail or OEM)
Kingston 184-pin of 512mb DDR (3200) Ram

I'm probably going to buy a new HD and use my old one as a slave and use my CD-rom/RW and modem and case too. Anything else should I get like a bigger powersupply? I have a 350W in there now.🙂

I'd go for a larger BRAND NAME power supply but that's just me. At the very least get a 380W Antec. I'd also raise the memory to 1GB (512x2) and run dual channel.

Would you go with AMD since I'm a gamer too?

Nice components. It wouldnt hurt if you went with AMD and got a similar CPU ... either the much cheaper Athlon XP or the faster Athlon 64. The Athlon 64 3000+ is really cheap these days, you might want to look into that.

well, assuming you go for the 754 pin athlon, the epox 8KDA3 or even the msi k8n neo platinum are great.

you could go for the 939 socket, which I recommend you do, but it might cost extra.

I agree with the AMD sentiments. I picked up a 3000+ for a little over 150 along with a Gigabyte GA-K8NS Pro NF3 and it's just as fast, if not faster than my old P4 3.0 system. For the price, you can't go wrong with AMD. I'm planning on upgrading my processor when the 3400's or higher come down a bit in price. I just needed something to get me by for now and it has surpassed my expectations.
