Building a Computer... Urgent Question!!

I put in all the parts. I booted up. Seemed like it was going great. Then... on the screen was the message, "CPU is unworkable or has been changed" or something like that. What does this mean? Is my processor defective? Common Error? Can I fix it?

Can you get into the Bios?

If you just installed a new CPU, then the CPU has been changed.

How about posting the Motherboard and other pertinant details.

I am using an Abit board. I can get into the BIOS. I am building a new computer from scratch, so yea, the CPU is new. It is the Abit VT7 Motherboard.

It comes up everytime (that message).

clear the cmos and try booting again and immediately hit del key to go into the bios ad make sure it is properly recognizing the cpu....

This may require you to flash the mobo if the problem continues...

Are you using an HD with the OS already installed from an earlier system? If yes, and winXP, the OS will have to be reregistered to the new hardware.
