Hiya

I'm putting together a computer and need some help. It's main purpose will be gaming.

I am a Canadian so it will have to be in Canadian $'s. The price range is approximately 2000-2500.

I will be building it myself, but I am unsure of hardware lately..so Need some advice.

If you are unsure of what sites to use for canadians... try out ncix.com.

Please, let me know what specs you can think of for a system like this! Here are the requirements:

Tower Only
No Monitor / Mouse / Keyboard / Etc
Sound Card Optional
No CD/DVD-Roms required
Case required

Thanks!

Let me know what you come up with!

Are you overclocking? If so the parts list changes slightly:

CPU :
Overclocking = Opteron 165
Not = 3800X2 or 4200X2 depending on wallet status

Motherboard :
Overclocking = Epox 9na ultra
Not = Asus A8NE

RAM :
2GB of 3200 RAM, if you have spare budget then you can go for PC 4000, this is the last thing you should upgrade though.

Graphics card:
7900GTX If you're a noise freak
X1900XTX if you're not.

HD:
Depends on how much space you need, options include:
WD4000KD (400GB, very fast)
WD raptor 74 (a bit faster than the WD4000KD, but not very big)
If you're a noise freak then samsung are best, if you want the warranty then seagate are excellent with a 5 year policy.

PSU:
500W enermax liberty, overkill but it's a great PSU and a decent price, if you're a noise freak the the seasonic s12 is worth a look. There are plenty of other good PSUs out there though.

Case:
Personal choice, noise freak - P180, Lian li if you're a fan of silver prettyness and coolermaster stacker if you want lots of airflow and room to play in.

Sound card:
XFI or competitor, depends on budget.

You might be able to afford a 7900GT SLI setup with that budget, but i'm too lazy to price it up for you ;)

I think that I am in the same boat as the OP, but I am in about the $1500, so my question: how well does the a8n32 overclock?
Would DFI SLI-DR be a better choice?
Also can I buy a 165 and be pretty sure that I can oc it easily to about 2.5ghz
