Building a computer, its been a while!

Well, as the title sais it, I'm building 2 computers. The first will not be for games, or for any high end 3D components, but it has to be fast and smooth.

Its going to be a graphic design workstation at work. From this computer, many large files are going to be created as well as sent to our wide format printer.

It needs at least 2GB+ of RAM with room for a ram boost later on. I'm thinking around 400GB Hard Drive and some kind of a video card that supports dual monitors (Not sure which one is best for software rendering anymore). I also need a chip thats stable and fast. I was thinking of the AMD series but not sure if thats top of the market anymore?

The second computer will be just a workstation that will be running a lot of applications in the background with a lot of data in memory from various sources. It needs about 1GB of ram, 200mb harddrive and a fairly fast processor. I'm less worried about this one, its the one on top that needs the high end components.

Can anyone help me out? I haven't build a computer in ages and all the new terms are stressing me out. If someone could help me with these two machines I would really appreciate it. The budget is fairly flexible so have some fun with these.

Thanks a bunch guys

Great, I looked into the FireGL cards and it looks like its a winner. What about chipsets. Is Intels Xeon chipsets better then the AMD 64?

Just glanced over your post; but I would go for an A64 on your second computer. All of those memory calls can be better handled by the integrated memory controller on the A64, and since you don't want to pour too much money into the second computer, its a good fit.
