It's a micro ATX form factor. Pick a CPU in your price range with Heatsink/fan and a micro ATx case(preferably with 200+ watt power supply)and you should have all you need. Don't forget to get a stick of 128 meg of ram.

$40 seems to be a lot for a case, I get them here for like $30 canadian!

And why get a 52x seedy rom? i'd suggest a used one for like $10... you said speed doesn't matter right? and they're pretty reliable if they're not abused.

Forget Intel for a cheap system - try this

Biostar M7VKL $70
Duron 750 $40
InWin v500 $38
128MB PC133 $18
Acer 52X CDROM $33
D-Link NIC $14

All prices from mwave, the best online retailer.

Total = $213 measly bucks, add less than another $50 for shipping, and it would stomp the bejesus out of that Celeron rig you proposed, and save you $60, too.

i have a amd system and hate to say it. they just dont seem to be AS stable. its fine when its my main machine.. They need stability first then even more stability. Speed is only SOME WHAT important

And well my intel machine next to me (600@800) is lots more stable than my 1.4ghz AMD...

I agree with Workin'
Go for Duron, it's cheaper, and probably faster as well.
Also, if you have some money left, but a good HSF. And you can overclock your CPU just for fun :)

About stability, if you dont overclock, then it should be fine.
I know many ppl here overclock their AMD like crazy, and still have no crashes.

but if having and intel CPU makes you feel better, then go for it. the price difference is not that big anyway.

You shouldn't automatically blame the cpu for instability, it could be any number of things.

I've seen intel systems that are about as stable as jello at a BBW aerobics class.
