what would be recommended? I want something that will push some games, I was considering an E4300, but I don't think that's gonna be enough

I already have a video card (x1950 pro)

I want a C2D with good overclocking capabilities, 4gb of memory, and a decent motherboard maybe with SLI if the price is right

and also recommendations for case/ps?

Games is more to do with ur VGA card than how high ur new CD2 will clock, but anyways...
E4300 aswell as the latest E2160 (both 1.8Ghz stock) can hit 3Ghz comfortably on a 965 based MB. The latest P35 config may be a better bet as fsb speeds seem to climb even higher and nth bridge temps are lower.
Power supply u cant go past Corsair HX520, it has stability, modular cabling & runs quiet. RAM get anything that runs 4-4-4-12 timing.....i prefer GSkill. As far as the case goes ur on ur own buddy lol .....too many tastes to give an opinion.
ps. ur a Senior member, i would have thought scouring these posts for the last 2 years u wouldnt need to ask ?

I was out of the game for quite awhile and just got back into it. I'm back in a learning phase and have been reading as much as I can. All this new technology is overwhelming me with the whole dual core deals, etc.

I have the 3800+. I think it was 69.99 at the time I bought it. It's still a good processor and runs everything flawlessly. I have no complaints, just want to jump on the intel bandwagon for now

Don't waste money on 4gb unless you're going 64 bit os. 32 bit won't recognize more than 2 gb.

Not exactly right. 32bit won't allow more than 2gb per application. It'll see anywhere from 2.5gb-3.5gb (Vista 32bit sees 3.07gb on my setup)

Edit: I wouldn't worry about sli. You already have a good card. When that starts lagging buy the next gen good card. I think it would be more cost effective in the long run.
