Building a budget computer

I am building a budget computer for a friend. His budget is $600. Its a work computer with no need for 3d-gaming. He wants a fast, quiet and reliable/stable system. I only built amd systems and am most comfortable with amd.

So need:

Case
Motherboard
CPU
Mem
Hd
Dvd-burner

Intel 286
640K RAM
80MB HDD
Black & Decker toaster (burns quite well)

You can come up with the rest.

(Sorry; there's been a Nef Special tonight in OT... I'd first ask exactly what kind of work he's doing so I know whether or not he can just get away with an old Athlon or PIII from FS/FT.)

Well He is Has a PIII800Mhz and thinks that is too slow so the 286 wount fly. He owns an own buissness and does alot of work on his computer. No graphic intense worth though.

I was joking about that. 😛

If he's just doing some general productivity stuff, maybe he just needs to reformat/get a bit more RAM or something.
