I am building a $900 budget A64 system, here is my wishlist on newegg. Take note that the NVIDIA 6600gt there might not be the one i am getting, i would like the X700pro i just need some input on that, and the rest of the build.

My A64 Wishlist

EDIT: My new Wishlist on newegg. I have a 80gb WD 7200rpm, 8mh HDD, the power supply i have to get one that is quality and matches my theme, the video card is still up for debate between the 6600gt and the x700PRO.

get the 6600gt it's better :)

very nice setup. quality power supply, best value for cpu and motherboard, good ram selection, and with a 6600gt you will have an excellent system. if you like the case, than you're good to go :)

here's some benchmarks comparing the two cards:

http://graphics.tomshardware.com/graphi...041222/vga_charts-03.html#3d_mark_2005

looking back on it, the x700 isn't that bad, i thought it was priced a little higher than the gt. pick the one which matches the games you play and the resolutions you play at.

thank you, i had some help picking it (ribbon 13), and all and all seems pretty good. He also suggested sticking with that card, although some people i know are saying it got bad review and this nonsense, i'm gonna stick with it. I love the case :) , and it comes with a 420W power supply, but i know if i can trust it so i got a OCZ 450W really nice one.

Now all i need is the money to make it.

That's such a great shootout comparison. Keep in though that alot of the great 3dMark scores are from fullblown SLI setups. It will say SLI at the end of the card's name if it is an SLI setup. thanks for posting that though, I feel alot better about buying my Xtasy x800xt again!! lol

The 6600gt will outpreform the x700 pro in every test below 1280x1024 according to tomshardware, in Farcry the 6600gt has a 18fps advantage over x700pro.

Got some good points with the video card. I usually play my games at 1024 by 768, although my current vid card couldn't really go any higher. My other comp is at 1280 by 1024 and its a nice res.

So if i run my res at 1280 by 1024 go with the 6600gt,
And if i run my res at 1024 by 768 go with x700 pro?

Fireontheway, you don't like my case? The case you have a link to is nice, i like it in blue and sliver, i dunno yet, nothing is finial i still got 4 months to work this out.

If you run 1280x1024 or lower Id run the 6600gt, at 1600x1200 the x700pro has the advantage because of its 256 mb of ram.

Why are you buying thermal paste with a retail box CPU? There will be thermal paste or thermal tape in the package along with the heatsink and fan.

Not only that, but a stock A64 comes with Shin-Etsu thermal grease pre-applied. This particular type of Shin-Etsu is about as good as AS5, so don't bother replacing it.

Do not get the Lite-On 1633S burner. Get the NEC 3520A and flash it w/ modified firmware. Lite-On optical drives are not what they used to be, their quality have been sub par for the past 2 years.

What games do you play? That could help determine which is the better choice. I would pick the x700 pro and run Omega drivers.

Well, with my current rig i dont play games much because its a 750mhz Duron, but i play call of duty and quake. I would like to play Unreal Tornament 2003, Counter Strike, halo, i dont need the best graphics card, just to play the newest games atleast on medium settings.
